DORSTENIA MORACEAE - yambuyaensis (Zaire)
An erect, bristly herb with oblong, lanceolate leaves to 7 inches long, shiny green above, pale and dull beneath and irregularly toothed: the green receptacle angularly rounded, almost 1 inch across, with winged margins with rays to 4 inch long......This sounds odd, doesn't it?
Indeed, it is a "study object for school, demonstrating that what looks like a handsome blossom is actually a plate-like receptacle with male and female flowers." (Graf p. 608)
CULTURE: It prefers moist, warm, greenhouse conditions. It is propagated by suckers and seeds.
It is almost never available.
